"Running the Gamut"
Opening: March 15, 2012 10am - 8pm
Reception: March 15, 2012 6pm - 9pm
On View: March 14 - 17, 2012
Information: On display is the nostalgia of literary past, a collection of prints & original, hand-bound book from Loujon Press. A small & significant printing press formed in New Orleans during the 1960s, Loujon Press was the brainchild of Jon & Louise "Gypsy Lou" Webb. Their contributions to the world of writing & hand-pulled prints include, but are not limited to, published works by Charles Bukowski, Henry Miller & Hunter Thompson. We are honored to exhibit works (all first editions) of these well-known artists, as well as original printing blocks from their literary magazine, The Outsider.
"Running the Gamut" also showcases the work of nine artists, encompassing a wide array of techniques & styles within the printmaking & book arts community. Each artist truly represents his or her genre(s) with conviction & aptitude. Featured artists are Stirling Barrett, Pam Caruso, Melissa Clark, Tish Douzart & Yuka Petz and Carol Hayman, Lynne Hubner, Amanda McInerney & Cathy Savage, representing Women Printmakers of Austin.
There will be on-going demonstrations in the printmaking studio by local artists during the length of the exhibition, coinciding with the Southern Graphics Council International's visit to New Orleans for their 2012 conference. One of the many demonstrations is a press-making workshop, taught by artists from Craft & Concept, in which a proof press will be constructed and put on display.
PRINT WORKSHOP
"Building Your Own Proof Printing Press"
When: Friday, March 16, 2012; 2:00pm - 5:00pm
Where: New Orleans GlassWorks & Printmaking Studio
Description: Want to lean the ins & outs of a printing press? This 3-hour workshop, lead by artists from The Print Factory's Craft & Concept (Kansas City), is a hands-on experience in building a small, portable backpack printing press. Workshop participants get access to blueprints, instructions & first-hand tutorials to make their own press at home. Upon completion of the design, Craft & Concept will donate the finished press to New Orleans GlassWorks & Printmaking Studio, adding one more useful feature to their print studio.
Pre-registration is required. To sign up for the workshop, email neworleansglassworks_gmail.com. Please include a phone number for two-way conversation.
